Let’s Go Fly a Kite

Hello, All!
Only 9 more days and spring will officially be here and it is coming in with the force of the lion right now. ‘Mother Nature’ is in cleaning mode.
Monday and Tuesday it rained melting much of the snow and leaving big puddles and mud everywhere. Since about 7:30 this morning the winds have been blowing non stop. It is so strong that one could be blown to their destination. :)
The sky is filled with a spectacular display of clouds. You may recall I love clouds.
At work I clocked in more hours this month then I am allowed so I got the day off. And a beautiful day for it too. So what do you think we did this morning? Yup, we went an flew a kite!

DH took a little movie of the event because the seagulls, who love to soar in the winds, felt the kite was invading their space and tried to attack it.
The geese on the other hand decided they wanted no part of it and left. :)

Standing out in that wind was mighty chilling especially so early in the morning and off the lake so we didn’t stay too long. We finaly arrived back home at 9 am and I was so glad we did.
After grabbing a quick bite to eat I checked out the TMN guide to see what was on. I wanted to bundle up in my quilt and watch a good movie. And thank goodness I checked too.
I love music that reaches inside of me and rips out the very core. I don’t know if specific music does this to many people but, depending on the piece, it can bring tears to my eyes, I feel it so profoundly. Strange, I know but I can not watch the ending of the Da Vinci Code without shedding a tear. I can not listen to Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody without it invading my mind.
Well the score to do it to me today was from the movie August Rush. It was my first time watching it and I will watch it over and over again till it’s no longer on TMN. Of cource I will go out and buy the video too. And not because it has a fantastic cast and storyline, because it does. But simply because the composer is none other then the infamous Mark Mancina.  A man who truly moves my soul.

8 Swans

Hi All! Hope you all are well.

For a week or so I thought I was going to turn into an icile LOL
But low and behold I did not even thou the freezing winds tried their best.
It’s actually starting to warm up some and I can base this on the fact that my doggie wants to go for longer walks.
She is really starting to get the hand of being the only doggie now and is starting to take the lead in where she wants to go. Before she would just be a follower. And it’s kind of exciting for us to see her adjusting so well. Every so often she still looks around for her buddy but it’s happening less and less as time goes on.
DH tries his best to bond with her and has found that she loves to play fetch the stick. Something she didn’t do to well before as the two dogs would end up playing with each other and the stick.
Still, DH has a hard time missing his doggie and still has his moments of tears. These arise when DH has his shower as his doggie would be in the bathroom waiting for his wet master to emerge from behind the shower curtain and DH would see him when he drew it open. And when he would push back his computer chair to find his doggie curled up behind him. And he really misses the barking in the car. And that one I find strange cause DH use to complain when his doggie wouldn’t hush up which eventually made him 1/2 deaf in one ear. 14 years of barking can do that LOL
And the girl, well she doesn’t do any of these things and kind of goes off to be on her own until you say walk or hungry and then out she comes wagging her tail and getting all excited.
And if that don’t beat all DH wants me to get him another dog. What do you think I said “NO WAY!”
The female is 5 years old and that means we have at least 10 more years with her. Gees, I need freedom. I hate to belly ache but our son is grown and gone, our plants went to my sister’s 6 years ago, after the fish and the birds we had over the years went on to the kingdom in the sky I said no more. I really don’t need anything more to tie me down. I like to travel and explore which we use to do a lot and pets and plants just don’t allow for weeks of enjoyment without running back to take care of them. And I just can’t leave my dogs with someone else we have only just met or whom our dogs don’t really know. Taking a pet on a trip just hasn’t worked out for the best for us either. Hotels don’t let them in and campgrounds are getting about the same. Going up to the cottage is about all we can do. I don’t think I am being selfish in the least about it either.

One thing DH loves, and I guess it’s because he’s a night worker, is his mornings out. So I give him one chore, as I can’t do it myself most days, and that is taking pictures. And he is doing quite well at learning the manual settings on my camera. Someday I will find the time to learn them too LOL
But in the mean while he’s the camera man during the week and he takes some pretty good shots. I’ve shown him some skills I was taught way back when and aside from the zooming he’s doing pretty good.
I have tried to tell him that the camera has 4 settings aside from the manual settings for zooming but he tends to forget thinking he will miss the shot if he makes the adjustment. ‘But isn’t it better to make the adjustment and come home with a clear zoomed shot then a crappy one’, I say.
And he gets so disappointed when he sees an owl or hawk and takes lots of pictures only to see that they are all blurry or too dark from being so far away LOL
Today I told him he has to start going to different places and taking more interesting shots because I can only view so many trees, water and grass. It gets boring. So he’s going to work on that but I won’t hold my breath as everywhere he goes he takes the dog and what do dogs like; trees, water and grass LOL
But like I said before he does come home with some amazing shots and this one is no exception.

7swans

Two of the eight are banded. You can see the yellow tags on their right wings. The only two to have pure black beaks as well.

This group kept following DH and doggie around and no matter which way they went the swans would turn around and follow. DH said it was quiet comical.
I suggested he go to the store and buy the biggest bag of mixed seed they have, take it to this place and dump it in a good size line so they could have some real food for a change.
Hey, it beats bread which, and I really wish people who feed the birds in the parks would know this, they don’t eat unless there is nothing else offered.
Birds eat seeds, grains, pebbles, grasses, moss, fish, algae, and some will even eat nuts and wild rice. All natual stuff. Nothing cooked, baked, fried or processed in any way. And in the winter some eat salt. What does a pet store carry these things for, us humans? LOL

Well I must gets some sleep before heading in to work this afternoon.
It’s been a slice all.

Art is

Whew, what a week at work. Thank goodness for weekend break periods :)

Today was sunny but extremely cold but that didn’t stop us from taking in at least one of the artistic murals that have become popluar eye candy around our cityscaps. And the reason for taking this one was not only that is was on a school wall and the beauty that the artist produced but the caption.

Art is the only way to escape…without leaving home.
Any artist can relate to that :)

The Heart

I got off early today, Yippee! But tomorrow is a long one with 3 big meetings in which the first one is at 7 am. I won’t get home till about 10 pm. So I am catching up before hitting the books this afternoon.
I forgot to post the heart I recieved for Valentine’s Day from DH so here it is…
vhart

It’s a Godiva. I think the ribbon roses are a neat touch. If you would like the larger image to extract for you scrap layouts leave a comment with your addy and I’ll sent it to you. My comments are moderated so no one will see your info but me and I will delete the comment after I send you the image. Since I still have the heart I would be willing to take different shots of it if you prefer a different angle. Just let me know.

In re to our doggie and this silly vet…would you believe last week they sent us a sympathy card, which we thought was rather nice of them. But today we got another one saying the exact same thing.
DH said “How stupid. Did they forget they already sent one or are they just trying to rub it in. ” LOL Well I haven’t a clue but it just makes our decision to end this relationship with them the right one.

Well it’s 2 pm and I best get to it. I have 6 hours to boggle my mind till DH awakens.

Many may get their AVG updates today and find the downloader file is suddenly missing, or find some other issue preventing them from updating their software.
The last update I recieved claimed I had a corrupt .bin file LOL so I went about doing it myself and I would like to share this info with you simply because help with this issues is poor on their forums and in their help files.

I am still using Windows XP so I am not familiar with Vista as of yet but it may work the same. And I use AVG FREE 8.

If you happen to run into other issues which I haven’t mentioned here, leave me a comment and I will try my best to work it out for you.

Please keep in mind I DO NOT USE VISTA.
There are several Vista answers on the AVG free help page which may assist you further.
If not, under search type in ‘how to update’ and find the proper description in the list for Vista.

Just a note on some instruction on their list : Never, and I mean never, download to your desktop.
Always create a folder under My Documents called downloads and download to there.

Here is what I did this time and the last time I recieved AVG error/corruptions.

You must be signed in as the administrator to do the following:

1. Go to http://free.avg.com/download-update and get the 4 updates listed there. Save them into your downloads folder.
Close your browser.

2. In your browsers options, clear all browsing history (except your passwords.)
In my case I use IE. To do this I go into my Control Panel and select Internet Option. On the General Tab there is the Browsing History area. Click on Delete. In there clear all but your passwords. Click close then click ok. Close the Control Panel.

2. Close AVG in the system tray.

3. Open Windows Explorer and go into your download folder and select all 4 bin files. Right click them and select copy.

4. Still in Windows Explorer>go to My Computer>C drive>Documents and Settings>All Users>Application Data>avg8>update>download, and paste these 4 files in there. Close Windows Explorer

5. If you have AVG on the quick launch bar, click it to open AVG. If not then on the Start Menu under All Programs>AVG Free 8.0> select AVG Free User Interface. This will open AVG.

6. On the top menu select Tools>Update From Directory, then go to the above location where the 4 bin files were copied to (see #4 above)
Click on the download folder then click ok.

7. The update window should pop up with the files available in which the first one is automatically selected, click update/ok. The update should start and eventually finish.

8. Once it’s finished close the AVG and then restart your computer. Once it’s restarted and back up to the desktop AVG should now be okay.
If you are not sure double click the AVG system tray icon and select updates. It should say you are up to date.

Now in the future, whenever you have AVG issues, do the manual download and follow the same instructions as above and all should go well.

Okay. I am running late so I have to get off to work.
Have a great day all.

Just a quick note: Venessa sent me a comment and I wanted to let her, and anyone who may happen to read the comments for this post, that the only time I remove anything from the Prefetch folder is when the program is no longer on the system and has failed to remove itself from that folder on reboot.
I do not recommend Venessa’s solution. Sorry GF.

Gone but not Forgotten

Well DH made it through the night without calling me. I am so proud of him.
It’s around 4 a.m. and I slept for an hour (1 to 2 am) and then I just woke up for some strange reason and haven’t been able to fall back to sleep. I went about changing the bed linens, made a tea, watched some t.v., even did some relaxing exercises, all in hopes I would nod back off, but it’s looks like it’s a no-go LOL
So I thought what they hey, get these pics up and wander the web till I feel tired again. I’ll go into work all bagged out with my brains floating , but what the hey LOL
It’s been raining all night and the roads look terrible. It’s pretty windy and cold too and that means ice, black ice, death ice. I see they laid down way too much salt again but if it saves lives… Maybe the truck woke me.
Well I’ll post the images and get on my way. Two posts, gees I am on a roll :)

Here he is sitting in our back yard.
doogie3

And here he is sitting in the park near our home.
doogie4

These are the two images I have selected to enclose in his memorial cards.
We are having a party for him on Saturday.
Oh, I forgot to mention…We didn’t have him cremated as was originally planned. Instead the vet is holding his body for us until the ground is digable and then we’ll be making him a nice coffin and burying him in our backyard with a head stone. It’s what DH wants to do so he will be close. We have to dig 4 feet down and the municipality gave us three location in our yard today that wont effect any utility lines. You have to call before you dig LOL. Safer then sorry :)

Well I am off now.
Thank you all for stopping by and sending us your condolences.
Much Love to All.

Belated but Wishing

It’s been a pretty busy time for me and thus I haven’t been able to get a post in. Today, with the slushy snow rain, I was able to leave early from work and settle down in front of the computer for a bit.

I hope you all had a loving, fun filled Valentine’s Day. I recieved a heart shaped box of Godiva chocolates and 3 long stemmed roses from my DH. In return I took him out on Sunday for lunch, purchased him a couple of pair of jeans, a couple of hoodies and a pair of Dr. Scholl’s shoes. He really needed the break as he has been non-stop with his doggie.
It was also Canada Flag Day on Sunday and to be honest I don’t think many people cared as I never seen any flags about in celebration. I was looking for them LOL
On Monday it was Ontario’s Family Day which every one had off. We, or I should say I, spent the day with our grand-niece which we haven’t seen in quite some time. She recieved 4 Leap Frog Pen books in celebration. DH only stayed an hour because he wanted to spend the day with his doggie.
I just didn’t have the heart to encourge him to stay longer as Tuesday was just too close.
You see, his doogies eye had lost it’s stitchings the last week and was growing larger. Blood began coming out of his nose the last few days and the entire situation was devasting for both of them. And when his doggie refused to eat the last two days it was the sign it was his time to go. So I made the appointment and on Tuesday morning his doggie went to heaven. It was the longest 30 seconds in my life and totally ripped my man apart. The vet allowed up to record the entire event which DH watches many times a day ever since. He sits in front of his computer going through the pictures over and over again, breaking down.
I am sure anyone who has owned a pet can understand, it’s just like losing a child.
I am handling it pretty good mind you. I must as DH needs all my love and support through this transistion. Mind you when he sleeps or takes out our other doggie I find myself teary eyed.
We both loved him so much.
When DH takes out our other doggie he meets up with his doggie friends and they all begin to break down.
I have cards and pictures to make and print out but I can’t do that just yet. Just letting you all know brings tears to my eyes.
Thank goodness time heals all.

In Loving Memory of our Doggie
March 3rd 1994 to February 17th 2009.

I just can’t post an image as of yet but as time passes I’ll post one.

Well it’s almost time for me to wake up DH and send him off to work. Another place where he will break down. How I wish I could be there for him. I know he will call me at lunch and I’ll lift up his spirits to last him till the morning.

So until I have time to post again remember life is short and it’s precious, enjoy it while it lasts.
