I received a note on Monday asking me who my favorite scrappers were, what I liked and didn’t like in the scrap world, etc., and thought I would post a reply here.
I visit 4 or 5 blogs regularly but I enjoy all the scrappers works. I have a few positives and negatives which either keep me coming back or keep me very far away.
Each scrapper has their own brand of talent but I enjoy those that don’t follow the pack the most.
Style is important and a distinctive style will stand out best among the rest.
I enjoy scrappers who are regular and relate to their readers as if they were all best buds. If they get sick we all know what is happening with them when they don’t post for a while. If they go on holiday or see an event, they share it all with their readers.
I don’t care much for those who get involved in let say a blog train and then are never heard from again till the next train leaves the station. Sure everyone has a life but by posting at least once a week or so it will keep people coming back even if they don’t have nothing to offer, retail or free.
I may visit a blog only once if they have things like java popping up on me, have my browser pumping non stop, or have that darn mouse-over pop up when I go to right click an external link.
Sure I love looking at all those layouts but gees, so many, open a gallery and post a link already.
If any site drags on my browser they won’t see me again.
If a site offers up a png I won’t visit them again. It must be zipped.
If a site offers up a freebie and one has to go joining some group or retailer to get it, forget it.
If a site gives me an entire page of what they are selling, and no more, forget it.
If a site only offer out a rar file you won’t keep me coming back either. 90% of the world uses a zipping program like Win Zip. Excluding the 90% will excludes the sites popularity. Just ‘your friends with rar’ is all that will visit.
If a site is offered in any language other then English I can’t read it so what’s the use. Sure Bablefish could help but I’ll be damned if I go swiping a page just to read what is being related. I enjoy those who use native and english tongues in their posts, They show they care by going out of their way to translate it all for me.
I never comment. What could I possibly say that 500 others haven’t said already…nice work.
I rarely, if ever, download what is offered out as I can make my own so I can’t say ‘hey, thanks.’
My neice however is a lazy one who does nothing but download, anything and everything.
I have had to redo her system 5 times this year alone.
Her complaint, bad files in a download.
I will grab a scrap sites link and add it to my Delicious list as Graphic links are what I collect the most of.
I don’t just skip through a site. I get to know the individual by their words & works.
If a site makes me laugh I will come back for more.
I love kids, having had my own, and coming from a big family, so I enjoy those who share their adventures in kiddy land.
I love all animals too so that will grab my attention if their stories are shared too.
So who are my fav’s…
I enjoy Vicki’s blog, Joni’s blog, Melissa’s blog, Amanda’s blog and Angie’s blog.
Each of these girls are just simple wonderful people whom I enjoy whenever I can.
And if you hop on over to their sites you’ll understand why they are wonderful.
Each of their sites will take you to a bunch of other wonderful scrappers too.
These are my top 5 in the scrap world but there are a few others I will pop in and visit when I can like Beth, Kim, & Irene. And I will pop in to the Scrap Orchard forum to keep in touch with that group once in a while.
Did I miss anything, most likely but you get the drift :)
Check out my Delicious links and see how you, as a scrapper, rank there. Don’t be frightened by the ratings. It’s simply because no one else is saving the site to Delicious not because the site is unpopular. However it could be a sign no one is visiting too.
I have added rar sites there too with a note indicating they only offer rar downloads for those who use rar.
Not all sites that offer rar are listed because, at first, I wasn’t saving them. Also I may have missed noting some sites that do offer rar downloads.
There are also some tagger sites in there as well.
I hope I answered your question, Kelly. If I missed anything, just comment or leave me a note again
